Derby Police Investigate Report Of Shots Fired

No one was hit after a report of shots fired near the intersection of Hawkins Street and Hawthorne Avenue Wednesday.

Derby police responded to a report of a large fight shortly before 10 p.m. on Anson Street toward Lafayette Street.

A crew from Derby Storm Ambulance was sent to help a person who had been assaulted. While police and EMS responded, what sounded like gun shots were heard around the corner toward the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Hawkins.

Police from Ansonia were sent as back up.

Officers searched the area, including storm drains and an apartment house on the corner of Hawkins Street. There were no bullet marks found on the houses. Police talked to several people on the street.

No further information was available Wednesday night.
