Holistic Center Opens In Ansonia

Mayor David Cassetti plans on being a repeat customer of Ansonia’s Anam Cara Holistic Center.

The new business at 50 Main St. offers a bevy of holistic healing services and treatments — Reiki, herbal remedies, aromatherapy, to name just a few.

But the business’ massage offerings are what caught the mayor’s eye.

I come from a family, when we meet, we give each other back rubs,” Cassetti said. So I’m looking forward to frequenting this place.”

About 20 people gathered at the business earlier this month for a ribbon cutting.

Owner Barbara O’Neil, who was raised in Seymour, said she’s been in the holistic healing field for about 25 years.

She previously ran businesses in Milford and Oxford.

A 2011 flood closed the Oxford business, but she said she was happy to find a new home in Ansonia as just the latest business opening on upper Main Street, where developer Jerry Nocerino and Shelton accountant Charles Smith are investing heavily in a retail revival.

Anam Cara means soul friend” in ancient Gaelic, O’Neil explained.
