Police: Man Triggers Police Chase To Bridgeport

An 18-year-old man led police on a chase down Route 8 into Bridgeport Friday morning.

Derby police received a 911 call at 9 a.m. reporting that someone was threatening a family member with a knife.

“Prior to police arrival, the 18-year-old suspect fled in a vehicle while reportedly in possession of the knife,” police said.

Police did not release the suspect’s name.

Police spotted the vehicle on Main Street, but the driver would not stop.

“A pursuit ensued onto Route 8 south that continued into Bridgeport before leaving Route 8 at exit 5,” police said.

The pursuit continued on the surface streets of Bridgeport, where city and state police took over.

“The vehicle pulled over on Colonial Avenue in Bridgeport and the driver became combative when being taken into custody by Connecticut State Police and Bridgeport Police officers,” police said.

The 18 year-old suspect will be charged with threatening, reckless endangerment, interfering and engaging the police in a pursuit.

“No damage was reported to any vehicles, police or civilian, throughout the incident,” police said.
