Moscato Takes Plea Deal

Derby Parking Authority Director Leo Moscato accepted a plea deal Wednesday in connection to his arrest for attempting to patronize a prostitute.

He’ll serve a year’s probation.

As part of a deal with prosecutors, Moscato, 46, pleaded guilty to two counts of breach of peace under the Alford doctrine. A guilty plea under the Alford doctrine means he contests the facts presented in the case, but concedes that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict him.

The married father of two was originally charged with attempting to patronize a prostitute in Naugatuck at the end of April, after police said he answered a Craigslist ad set up by Naugatuck police as part of a sting.

Moscato was sentenced to a year in jail on the breach of peace charges — but he will not have to serve time behind bars if he can go one year without getting arrested.

Moscato had applied for accelerated rehabilitation for his charges, but was denied.

He was ineligible for the program, according to court documents, because he had previously participated in the program.

Information on Moscato’s previous participation in the program — specifically, why he was in it — wasn’t available Wednesday.

Moscato did not appear in a court room Wednesday, but met with a prosecutor privately inside the building.
