Oxford Police Investigating Brazen Shoplifting Spree

OXFORD — Police are investigating a brazen, organized shoplifting spree that was caught on camera and shared to social media.

In the video, which was posted publicly to Facebook at 7:33 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 and has been viewed more than 20,000 times, four people can be seen frantically loading shopping carts full of items into two vehicles parked directly in front of the Market 32 grocery store in the Quarry Rock plaza off Route 67.

One person is wearing a mask and hoodie, while a second person wears a mask and a winter hat. They look male, and they’re seen throwing items into a tan SUV with rust spots.

The video also shows two other people — what looks like a man and a woman — loading items into a tan minivan.

The group appears to be loading dozens of bottles of laundry detergent, along with either paper towels or toilet paper.

There are several eyewitnesses present, one of whom insults the criminals by calling them “***holes.”

However, the group ignores the people, then speeds away in the vehicles.

On Wednesday, the Oxford Resident Trooper’s Office issued a statement saying that police responded to a reported larceny at Market 32 at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 9).

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that at about 0640 hours, store personnel observed several people within the store filling multiple shopping carts,” police said. The observed behavior of the individuals raised alarm to said store personnel. The individuals subsequently left the store without paying for the items, loaded them into two awaiting vehicles parked in the fire lane, and fled the area.”

Two people captured on video stealing items from Market 32 in Oxford.

Police said they’ve reviewed the video, and are also getting surveillance video from the store.

As of this time, the identities of these individuals is unknown and it is believed that the vehicles they were traveling in were stolen,” police said in the statement.

In the 55-second mark of the video, a person can be heard saying police were on the way, but police noted that no one called 911.

The Market 32 larceny was reported through the resident trooper’s non-emergency about 10 minutes after it happened, police said. Anyone who witnesses a crime in progress, or suspects a crime is taking place, should call 911.

Had 911 been contacted in a timely manner, police personnel would have been able to attempt to intercept those involved. We would like to remind everyone to stay vigilant and not to engage with people like this when a crime is occurring,” police said.

This remains a very active investigation with information sharing being conducted across multiple police departments. If anyone has any information that could aid in identifying those involved, please call the Oxford Resident Trooper’s Office at (203) 888‑4353 and reference case number 2100460035.”
