Police Closing In On Oxford Thieves

Anyone with info on the crime should call the Oxford Resident Trooper’s Office at (203) 888-4353.

OXFORD — State police said they have tentatively identified two of the four suspects caught on video stealing items from the Market 32 grocery off Route 67 on Nov. 9.

No one has been arrested — yet. Police said they are working on arrest warrant applications.

Due to his being an open and active investigation, we will not be releasing their identities as of this time,” Oxford Resident Trooper Sgt. John Acampora wrote in a prepared statement Friday (Oct. 12).

Earlier this week The Valley Indy reported on a viral video that showed four people frantically loading grocery carts full of laundry detergent and other items into two getaway vehicles parked just in front of the store. One person captured the scene on video and insulted the group as they committed the crime, but police said no one called police until the vehicles — believed to be stolen — sped away.

The video is posted below (article continues below):

One of the involved vehicles — a tan minivan — was found in New Haven. It will be processed for evidence at a trooper barracks in Southbury after state police obtain a warrant.

The brazen crime happened at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. According to an Associated Press report, laundry detergent is a popular item for organized shoplifters because it is easy to resell.

Police said they have received hundreds of tips from the public regarding the crime.

We continue to ask that if you have any information related to this incident, please call the Oxford Resident Trooper’s Office at (203) 888‑4353 and reference case number 2100460035,” police said.

The video struck many as bizarre, with people online questioning its authenticity until state police confirmed it was actual footage.

A reader on Valley Indy Facebook said the same group might have hit a store a in Wallingford, citing another video posted to Reddit. The video (link below, beware of bad language) shows very similar vehicles from the Oxford heist (keep in mind headlines on Reddit are authored by users, which means the headline could be wrong):
