Shelton Police on Thursday said a 19-year-old Milford man has been arrested in connection with the August theft of a David Hasselhoff sign from a local gas station that left a clerk in critical condition.
The man, Adam Holter, was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Shelton Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said in a prepared statement that Holter surrendered to police Thursday after learning of a warrant for his arrest.
Holter posted a $10,000 bond and will be arraigned at Superior Court in Derby Oct. 24.
Police said in August that a group of people were allegedly stealing David Hasselhoff advertisements from a light pole outside a Cumberland Farms on River Road about 1:15 a.m. Aug. 20 when a 36-year-old clerk attempted to stop them.
The SUV drove away, police said, causing the clerk to be dragged and then flipped backwards, landing on his head.
Shelton police allege that Holter was the driver. While there were two other people in the vehicle, they are not being charged based on the results of the police investigation.
Holter apparently came forward to authorities a day after the incident and has been cooperating with the police investigation, according to previous information released by police.
In the days after the incident, Hasselhoff tweeted support to the victim.
“The victim is still recovering from the injuries he sustained during the incident,” Kozlowsky’s statement said. “No other arrests are expected in this case.”
