The Connecticut Association of Schools and the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has selected Derby High School seniors Joshua Dana and Nicole Rizzo for the 2018 Connecticut High School Scholar-Athlete Award.
The scholar-athlete program recognizes high school seniors with exemplary academic and athletic records. In addition, the Connecticut Association of Schools looks for students whose personal standards and achievements are a model for others.
Josh Dana has been on the Derby High School wrestling team for four years. He has earned a GPA of 3.83 and plans to attend the University of New Haven in the fall, majoring in criminal justice.
Nicole Rizzo has been on the Derby High School cross-country team for four years, and competes with the girls indoor and outdoor track teams. Nicole has earned all Naugatuck Valley League honors as a member of the cross-country team every year.
