State and local officials Monday took part in a ceremonial groundbreaking for additions and renovations to Ansonia’s Emmett O’Brien Technical High School.
Construction started in May on the $94.3‑million project, and the work is slated to be completed in February 2017.
The project includes 46,000 square feet of new construction and 124,000 square feet of renovation in the school, located at 141 Prindle Ave..

They hope there will never be a need for it, but in the case of an emergency or a disaster, the American Red Cross is now better equipped to handle it in the Valley.
On Wednesday, contingents from the groups that made it possible were on hand in the West Main Street Parking Lot to christen a new disaster response trailer that will be stationed at Ansonia High School and available to serve the five Valley communities.

It took seven years, more than a million dollars and countless hours of work, but on Tuesday the dream of a new city animal shelter came to pass as Mayor Mark Lauretti cut the ceremonial ribbon on the Brewster Street facility.
“To have stayed within the budget and get the product that they got is a credit to them,” Lauretti said of the Animal Shelter Building Committee, which started working on the project in 2007, “and it speaks volumes to our city and the people who reside here.”

It was seven years ago, just as the economy was in free fall, when Libby Meissner opened the doors of Crave on Main Street in Ansonia.
Despite the dour economy, Crave flourished.
So much so that when another storefront opened a few doors down on Main Street, Meissner moved the boutique she also owned next to Crave to the empty spot in order to expand her popular restaurant.

The organization helps low-income children and their families throughout Connecticut. It operates the Valley Diaper Bank in Seymour.

The historic Ansonia Armory Sunday hosted women’s basketball players who have made history of their own playing for the University of Connecticut Huskies and in the Olympics for Team USA.
Several former standout UConn players were interviewed in the gymnasium for a documentary for ESPN2, said Sheila O’Malley, Ansonia’s Director of Economic and Community Development.
