Animal Cruelty Charges Lodged Against Two Ansonia Men

ANSONIA – Police raided a house on Condon Drive and found multiple” emaciated dogs in urgent need of medical attention.”

In a Facebook post on June 11, Ansonia police said they entered 22 Condon Drive with a search warrant on June 6.

Police said they seized 11 dogs and three cats. A dead dog was found in the residence. Two of the dogs taken from the house were in such bad shape a vet put them to sleep, police said.

Javon Coverson, 30, of 22 Condon Drive, was charged with eight counts of animal cruelty, seven counts of failing to comply with dog ownership requirements, and seven counts of failing to comply with rabies control ordinances.

Assante Coverson, 26, of the same address, was charged with cruelty to animals, failing to comply with dog ownership requirements, and failure to comply with rabies control ordinances.

The search warrant used in the raid was in connection to an investigation not involving animal cruelty. That separate investigation is ongoing, police said,

Both men will appear in Superior Court in Derby.
