About 100 people gathered Tuesday evening as Ansonia marked the conclusion of the rehabilitated Wakelee Avenue.
The 1‑mile construction project included milling and paving, new sidewalks, the installation of 120 antique-style street lights, new drainage along new trees and benches. It cost about $5 million.
Mayor David Cassetti cut a ribbon officially outside Roma’s Pizza to mark the occasion. The owners offered pizza, trays of chicken wings, Christmas cookies, soda and coffee.
Some neighbors have complained about the lights being to bright on Wakelee Avenue, giving the street a landing-strip effect at night, but the city has been working to address those issues.
