Ansonia Resident Named 2010 Outstanding Young Alumni

Melissa Pucci of Ansonia, Conn., a 2000 graduate of Salve Regina, was honored with the university’s 2010 Outstanding Young Alumni Award during its recent Fall Festival Weekend. 

The award recognizes exceptional achievement and honors alumni younger than 35 years old who have demonstrated great promise and accomplishment in their chosen professions or through community, public or humanitarian service.

Director of admissions for Yale Divinity School, Pucci received her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Salve Regina and her master’s degree in religious studies from Yale University. 

She serves on the board of directors for the Valley United Way and also advises the Youth Leadership Program and chairs the Volunteer Action Center’s advisory committee. 

In addition, Pucci serves on the board for the Birmingham Group Health Service Foundation and has been an active member of its Umbrella Resource Committee – raising funds and awareness, through events such as the annual Bowl-to-Benefit, which she co-chairs, to benefit victims of domestic violence. Pucci is also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, serving on the executive board of the Housatonic Council as fundraising chair and, in 2008, was named a Woman Making a Difference in the Valley” by the Valley Women’s Health Initiative.

Salve Regina University, founded under the sponsorship of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, is an independent college in the Catholic tradition of education.
