U.S. attorneys have finished their arguments against Shelton developer James Botti at his federal corruption trial at U.S. District Court.
At about 1:30, Botti’s attorney, William Dow III, will begin questioning defense witnesses. Dow expects to complete his defense by the end of the day Tuesday, he told Judge Charles Haight Monday afternoon.
After the prosecutors wrapped up testimony, Dow made a motion for a judgement of acquittal on all counts, arguing that the government hasn’t given sufficient testimony to support their theory of a large scale corruption conspiracy in Shelton.
“From what I have heard, I believe there are, at best, two separate conspiracies,” alleged by the government, Dow said.
Judge Haight hasn’t ruled on the motion yet.
Dow’s witnesses include Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora.
Dow has said he wants to call character witnesses to attest to Botti’s bombastic and hyperbolic nature.
