The annual golf tournament was named after Red” Larsen, long-time Board member of the Boys & Girls Club. Red served on the Board for decades and served as chairman of the golf tournament for more than 20 years. He would often be stuffing tee favor bags” for the golfers the day before the tournament or putting sponsor signs out on the course early in the morning on tournament day. The tournament has run every year since 1972, and this year marked the 50th anniversary.

What an incredible tournament it was this year,” says Richard Carroll, chairman of the golf committee. The committee did a phenomenal job putting together a fun day for our golfers. And if anyone would like to join the golf committee to plan next year’s event, we’d love to have you!”

Clay Larsen, Red’s son, participated by holding a long-drive contest on the second hole. Anyone who outdrove Clay received a free ticket to the liquor tower, a collection of nearly 30 bottles.

Proceeds from the golf classic benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley, which has been changing the lives of young people in the Valley for more than 65 years. With programs ranging from homework assistance to nutrition to workforce development, the Club helps all young people to reach their full potential, but especially those from disadvantaged circumstances.
