Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In Derby, the race for mayor pits one-term incumbent Democrat Anita Dugatto against Republican challenger Richard Dziekan, a retired Hamden police officer and member of the city’s Board of Apportionment and Taxation.

Dugatto is a dentist with an office in Derby.

More About The Campaign

The top-of-the-ticket battle between Dugatto and Dziekan will serve as a referendum on Dugatto’s first two years in office since taking the mayor’s chair from four-term Republican Anthony Staffieri.

Staffieri, by the way, is running for the Board of Aldermen this year.

Dugatto beat Staffieri by more than 400 votes in 2013, and the Democrats walked away with a 7 – 2 majority on the Board of Aldermen, which has since grown to 9 – 0 with the defection of two GOPers.

Dugatto has said she has worked hard to lay the groundwork to move more development forward citywide. Dziekan has countered that the mayor hasn’t done enough to attract developers and build the grand list.
