“Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center, one of the nation’s leading community health centers and Connecticut’s longest serving, has been selected by the NewAlliance Foundation to receive a $10,000 grant to support the organization’s demonstrated innovative thinking, dedication to advancing health equity, and creativity in pursuit of its mission.
The award, honoring the life and legacy of NewAlliance Foundation board member William W. Bouton III, is a “surprise $10,000 grant,” announced today by the NewAlliance Foundation at a brief ceremony at Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center in New Haven. CS-HHC was selected by vote of the NewAlliance Foundation Board.
Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center CEO Michael R. Taylor announced that the grant will be used to build the health center’s Endowment Fund, alongside funds recently contributed by the CS-HHC Senior Leadership team to begin the first endowment fund in CS-HHC’s history.
“We are thrilled to provide Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center with this well-deserved award in recognition of their tremendous innovation and exceptional commitment to the health and well-being of the communities they serve,” said NewAlliance Executive Director Maryann Ott. “The recent expansion of Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center into a new location at the Dixwell Community House is a reflection of their unwavering dedication to the community.”
CS-HHC’s new, larger Dixwell Q‑House facility in the local neighborhood, opened last summer, is equipped with significant upgrades and offers a broad range of essential services, including adult and pediatric medicine, behavioral health, dental services, women’s health care, infectious disease care, and podiatry. NewAlliance Foundation officials noted that the expansion underscores CS-HHC’s commitment to bridging the healthcare gap in New Haven and will have a significant impact on the lives of Dixwell residents and the community.
“We are honored to receive this grant, and for the recognition of our innovative heath care equity work in the community that it highlights,” said Michael R. Taylor. “The NewAlliance Foundation plays a vital role supporting nonprofit organizations throughout the region, and their dedication to the people of our communities is incredibly impressive. Devoting this grant to our new endowment fund will extend the number of people who will benefit in the years ahead.”
Established in 1968, Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center is Connecticut’s first community health center and a pioneering institution dedicated to providing excellent and compassionate care accessible to all. Through the years, expansion throughout the region now includes 31 health care locations throughout Greater New Haven and Lower Naugatuck Valley.
Currently, construction is nearing completion on the Recovery & Wellness Center. It will be one of the most comprehensive behavioral health and addiction services centers in South Central Connecticut, and will become a key component of a unique, fully integrated comprehensive continuum of care campus at CS-HHC.
CS-HHC’s innovative model to bring equitable healthcare to New Haven and within the region is highlighted by partnerships across the community. These initiatives reflect a vision of collaboration and advocacy to improve people’s lives, consistent with the goals and aspirations of Cornell Scott and his colleagues at the creation of the health center, more than a half-century ago.
The NewAlliance Foundation also noted the establishment of the Cornell Scott Hill-Health Center Foundation this past year, led by LindyLee Gold as Board Chair and Michael R. Taylor as the Foundation’s President. The creation of the foundation “is an example of the Health Center’s out-of-the-box thinking to continually grow the services and support of the organization,” Ott said.
The mission of the foundation is “To support Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center in promoting the health and well-being of the communities it serves,” reflecting its dedication to enhancing patient services and community initiatives. The foundation will play a vital role in ensuring a robust response to patient needs, especially considering the increased demand for healthcare services in Greater New Haven, NewAlliance Foundation officials pointed out.
