DAR Revolutionary Patriots Marker Unveiled At Shelton Veterans Memorial Park

In preparation for the nation’s Semiquincentennial in 2026, the Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) unveiled a DAR Revolutionary War Patriots marker on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Veterans Memorial Park, Shelton.

Shelton has a rich history of military heroes in all wars and conflicts. The Veterans Memorial Park was founded to recognize and honor the men and women who served our country in the military services. The addition of the Revolutionary War Patriots marker at Veterans Memorial Park honors those Shelton/Huntington patriots who served during the American Revolution (19 Apr 1775 — 3 Sep 1783).

SRH-MS Chapter Regent Jeaneen Buchanan said, We are looking ahead to our country’s upcoming 250th birthday and this DAR marker recognizes those who believed in the noble cause of liberty and, with everything to lose, fought courageously.” She also felt that those who walk by the marker will remember those who risked everything so that we can be free.”

The Colors were presented by The Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion, Post 16 and the Trumbull VFW Post 10059. Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post 16 gave the Rifle Salute & Taps.

The National Anthem was sung by Kristina Bratz, Shelton High School. Everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. Reverend Joseph Cervero, St. Margaret Mary Church, gave the Invocation. CTDAR State Regent Lisa Melland and Shelton Mayor Mark A. Lauretti brought greetings.

Mayor Lauretti proclaimed October 23, 2024 as DAR Revolutionary War Patriots’ Monument Dedication Day in Shelton, CT and encouraged all residents to join in recognizing the significance of this memorial and to honor the indomitable spirit of those who fought for American independence.

After the Dedication of the America 250! Patriots Marker, Regent Buchanan closed by saying that during the American Revolution, the Ripton Parish/Huntington patriots answered the call as militiamen and as public and civil servants. She also said a QR code will be available with the names of those who served and will be updated as additional patriots are identified.

SRH-MS Chapter Chaplain Cheryl Basztura gave the Benediction.

Everyone enjoyed the cookies and cider and were thankful for the courage of all who protect our nation.
