U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro visited Shelton Saturday (Sept. 21) to endorse her campaign manager, Jimmy Tickey, a member of the Board of Apportionment and Taxation who is running for a seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission.
DeLauro also took the occasion to say the U.S. House of Representatives has “discredited itself” by voting last week to cut $40 billion from the federal food stamp program.
DeLauro said that she entrusts Tickey with her political career when she runs for re-election every two years.
She also lauded Tickey’s experience volunteering in the community, as a successful small-business owner, and as the Vice Chair of Shelton’s Board of Apportionment & Taxation dealing with the city’s budget.
“He combines the know-how politically with the policy and he knows how to integrate these,” DeLauro said. “Let’s make sure that this young man — this unbelievably smart, talented, compassionate and committed young man — has an opportunity to be able to take these qualities and apply them to public service.”
