Derby Board of Education Member Named CABE Delegate

Melissa Mongillo, Vice Chairperson of the Derby Board of Education was recently selected as a CABE Area 7 Delegate. The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education is a group that represents local board of educations at the federal level, provides critical resources, research and advocacy at the state level and provide critical educational opportunities.

CABE Area 7 encompasses Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, Hamden, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Region 5, Seymour, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge.

Mongillo is entering her second term on the Derby Board of Education and was recently unanimously selected Vice Chairperson of the Derby Board of Education by her peers. In addition to her role on the board of education, Mongillo is also the President of Derby Pop Warner. When asked about her new role as Area & Director, Melissa added, I am honored to be selected and look forward to working with this group to ensure our area is well-represented and we continue to advocate for resources for our community.”

Jim Gildea, Chairman of the Board of Education said, There are 17 towns in the CABE region and this is impressive accomplishment by Melissa, and one that will serve Derby well. CABE is an organization that provides critical services to local Boards of Education and having someone from Derby in a leadership position will benefit our town.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Matthew Conway, also immediate Past President of the Connecticut Association of Public-School Superintendents weighed in and said, Board member Mongillo will be a tremendous asset to the CABE board as Area 7 Co-Director. Her experience in and knowledge of boards, committees, community involvement and organization, her jump in and let’s get it done’ attitude, and most importantly her role as a parent, will enable her to support boards of education across the region and the CABE organization as a whole.”

CABE president Mr. Leonard Lockhart said, I’m thrilled to appoint Melissa Mongillo to the CABE Board of Directors as an Area Director for Area 7 covering seventeen districts. Her leadership as Vice Chair mixed with ability to work with others brings a fresh perspective to CABE. As a voting member, she will help drive the direction of CABE as we pursue high quality public education for all children in the State of Connecticut.”
