Derby Firefighters Give Back With Thanksgiving Meals

Derby firefighters prepared and delivered more than 60 Thanksgiving meals to senior citizens and people in need Wednesday.

The meals were prepared by firefighters in the kitchen at the Paugassett Hook and Ladder Co. 4, 57 Derby Ave. and then delivered all over Derby.

The fire department teams with Meals on Wheels (a TEAM, Inc. program in Derby) and the Derby Housing Authority to get a list of people who are alone on Thanksgiving.

The idea is to brighten the holidays with a good will gesture, according to Derby Fire Commissioner Mike Kelleher.

The meals were loaded onto fire trucks about 2 p.m. to be delivered.

Watch the video below for a short interview with the firefighters.

The second video is a WFSB report on the effort.
