Derby Mayor Rich Dziekan will be using his bartending skills for a good cause at a new business on Main Street Tuesday.
The mayor is scheduled to be a guest bartender at Sherman’s Taphouse, a bar-restaurant that opened late last year.
Sherman’s Taphouse is at 181 Main St. Dziekan is scheduled to bartend from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Dziekan moonlighted as a bartender before being elected mayor. He is a retired Hamden police officer.
Tips for the mayor, along with 10 percent of the sales, will be donated to TEAM, Inc., a social service agency based on Elizabeth Street.
Dziekan talked about the idea during a recent episode of “Navel Gazing: The Valley Indy Podcast.”
During the interview the mayor said he wanted to showcase a new business and help a local nonprofit.
He hopes to do the same at other bar-restaurants in Derby.
