Drayton-Rogers To Update Tax Collector Investigation

Oxford First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers will hold a press conference at noon today (Thursday, Oct. 20) to talk about Karen Guillet, the town’s former tax collector.

It is unclear what information will be discussed. The press conference will be in Oxford Town Hall.

The Town of Oxford has a civil lawsuit pending against Guillet for allegedly misappropriating public funds.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday morning with Dominick Thomas, her attorney in the civil case. Thomas may be unavailable today because he is taking a deposition in a court case, his law office said.

State police have been investigating the matter since early 2010. State police said Thursday morning the investigation continues and that there is nothing new to report on their end.

More than $600,000 went missing since 2007, according to court records.

Guillet was operating something of a Ponzi scheme in the Oxford Tax Collector’s office for at least six years, town officials said during testimony at a hearing in Superior Court in Milford in April.

Checks and cash for tax payments would come into Guillet’s office — but wouldn’t necessarily get applied toward the account of the person who paid.

Instead, Guillet floated the payments to other accounts in an elaborate scheme to hide missing cash, officials said.
