On Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 nine members of the Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Co. #1 traveled to Bridgeport Hospital to present a $2,800 donation check to the Connecticut Burn Unit located at Bridgeport Hospital.
Below is a speech our Treasurer Max Aulet presented to the members of the burn unit:
The Officers and Members of Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Company #1 are honored to be here today to present this years 2011 Fund Drive donation to Bridgeport Hospital’s Burn Unit.
Even though we are in a tight economy, the residents and businesses of downtown Shelton continue to support their local fire department.
With their support we are able to turn around and support a vital, life saving unit of this hospital that is essential in what we do. Thankfully we have only needed to call on the services of the Bridgeport Burn Unit twice in the 129 years that Echo Hose has been serving the community, but many of our residence and neighbors have required your service and we are glad that this unit is located right in our back yard.
This year more than 300 donations were pledged to support the fire house, which far exceeded our goal. We pledged to donate 15 percent of the funds received from our Annual Fund Drive to support the Bridgeport Burn Unit. With the increased donations this year we are able to increase our donations from an estimated $1,800 to $2,800.
The Officers, Members and Downtown Residents of Shelton are honored to present this $2,800 check to the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Unit.
