Former Derby Principal Pleads Not Guilty

Former Derby High School Principal Greg Gaillard has pleaded not guilty to stealing $13,200 from a school union.

Gaillard appeared at Superior Court in Derby Monday (April 6), where he entered the not guilty plea, according to court records.

He is scheduled to return to court June 22 for a pre-trial hearing.

Gaillard was charged by Derby police with second-degree larceny Feb. 17.

He allegedly misappropriated $13,200 from a bank account used by the Derby Administrators Union, of which he was the president.

Gaillard, a Naugatuck resident, abruptly resigned as Derby High School principal Dec. 9.

That same day, according to an arrest warrant, Derby Schools Superintendent Matthew Conway found union bank statements on Gaillard’s desk.

Conway asked questions about the account, which prompted the union officials to review bank statements, at which time they realized money was allegedly missing.

Gaillard, according to the arrest warrant, was the only person who had access to the union’s bank account.

Second-degree larceny is a felony.
