Griffin Hospital A ‘Top Performer’ In The U.S.

Griffin Hospital has been recognized by a national accreditation board for health care organizations in the United States.

The Joint Commission — a non-profit voluntary accreditation organization for hospitals — ranked Griffin as one of the top performers in the country.

The recognition looks as how hospitals treat heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and children’s asthma, according to data from the Joint Commission.

Griffin was on a list of 405 hospitals that earned the distinction in the country. It was the only hospital in Connecticut named to the list.

It sets them apart, shows they are among the top hospitals in the country performing on these accountability measures. That’s a significant achievement,” said Elizabeth Eaken Zhani, spokesman for The Joint Commission.

This is the first time The Joint Commission has recognized top hospital performers. It has included the information in its annual report released this month, called Improving America’s Hospitals.”

Griffin President Patrick Charmel said he is grateful for Griffin’s care givers and their commitment to excellence.

The Joint Commission recognition is a tribute to the outstanding performance and dedication of the entire Griffin family to delivering high quality, patient-centered care and to providing an exceptional patient expedient,” Charmel said in a press statement.

Dr. Mark R. Chassin, president of The Joint Commission, said in a press statement the public expects transparency in the reporting of performance at the hospitals were they receive care.

The Joint Commission is shining a light on the top performing hospitals such as Griffin Hospital that have achieved excellence on a number of vital measures of quality of care,” Chassin said.
