Irene Damage Public Meeting in Seymour

Seymour will host a public information session for residents affected by Hurricane Irene at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

The meeting will be held at Town Hall on First Street.

Douglas Glowacki, from the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, will present an informational program on the Hazardous Mitigation Process for residents. A community representative from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will also attend, to help residents and answer questions.

Thomas Eighmie, the town’s emergency management director, said Seymour plans to apply for a competitive Hazard Mitigation Grant” for two projects — dredging of a pond on Beach Street and new piping for the Steele Brook that runs under Walnut Street.

If we can try to remedy (the problems) through something like this, that’s the goal,” Eighmie said.

The application deadline has been extended through the end of November. See document below for more information on the grant program.

Eighmie said the town is looking for input from residents in case there are other projects it should apply for hazard mitigation funds for.
