A 31-year-old Naugatuck man was killed during in a car crash on Route 8 in Shelton Saturday morning.
Thomas Sulier was heading north in his 1997 Buick Park Avenue near exit 13 at about 7:45 a.m. when he veered off the highway and crashed into the trees in the median.
State police said in a statement they do not know what caused the wreck.
Sulier was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt and an air bag was deployed.
The accident is under investigation. Anyone with information should call Trooper Benjamin J. Kores at 203 – 393-4200.
Sulier is the second person to die on Route 8 this month. On April 6, a 20-year-old North Carolina man was thrown from the vehicle in which he was a passenger. Police said speed probably played a role in that wreck, which also happened on Route 8 north near exit 13. That car also smashed into trees.
In January, a 33-year-old Winsted woman was seriously injured on Route 8 north near exit 13 after a crash involving a tractor-trailer.
In July, an alleged drunk driver caused an accident on Route 8 north that sent one person to the hospital.
Wrecks on Route 8 in Shelton are fairly common, according to readers of the Valley Indy Facebook page.
They used social media to call on state officials to look into the situation on Route 8 through Shelton.
