The long-awaited opening of the new Aldi supermarket on Pershing Drive in Derby is scheduled for Dec. 11.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 9 a.m., to be followed by an on-site sweepstakes offering shoppers a chance to win $1,000 in gift certificates.
The store is located at 72 Pershing Drive.
The location will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Aldi operates more than 1,300 stores in 32 states.
A press release from the company says that the new Derby location “features high ceilings and environmentally friendly building materials – such as recycled materials and energy-saving refrigeration and light bulbs – to ensure that customers enjoy a shopping experience that is simple and easy to navigate.”

The new store is part of a new development that will also include a Panera Bread location.
A spokesperson for Panera Bread, which is also going to open on Pershing Drive, said the company is targeting Dec. 17 as an opening date.
However, that’s assuming the weather cooperates, the spokesperson said in an email.
