New Parking Regulations In Seymour

The following press release is from the Seymour Police Department:

At last night’s Board of Police Commissioners meeting, the Commission approved the following commercial parking regulation for the Town of Seymour. This regulation goes into effect immediately, however, we will not begin enforcement until May 14, 2024, which is about a 60-day grace period. The fine for a violation is $30.00.

Here is the regulation and list of prohibited vehicles:

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to park or leave standing, whether occupied or not, a vehicle on any street located in a residential district, as defined in the Town of Seymour Zoning Regulations, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., or to park for longer than two (2) hours in any twenty-four-hour period on any street in such residential district, any vehicle bearing any type of registration listed in Schedule A and having any one (1) of the following characteristics: 

(1) height in excess of eight (8) feet; 

(2) length in excess of twenty (20) feet; 

(3) width in excess of seven (7) feet (excluding mirrors); 

(4) wheels in excess of four (4) in contact with the ground; 

(5) gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight rating in excess of twelve thousand (12,000) pounds; or 

(6) capacity exceeding three-fourth (¾) tons in capacity.

B. This section shall not apply to: 

(1) any vehicle necessary for the performance of a service in or at the nearest residence or building for a period of time not longer than is necessary for the performance of the service; 

(2) any vehicle in use by a public service company, defined in Section 16 – 1 of the Connecticut General Statutes, responding to an emergency for a period of time not longer than is necessary to remedy the emergency; 

(3) any vehicle in the process of making a delivery for a period of time not longer than is necessary to make the delivery; or 

(4) any Town of Seymour municipal vehicle or any vehicle parked or left standing as ordered by the police.

Apportioned, Bus, Camp Trailer, Camper, Combination, Commercial, Commercial trailer, Construction, Dealer, Factory, Farm, Hearse, Interstate, Livery, School Bus, Specialized mobile equipment, Taxi, Trailer, Transporter, Truck, Vanpool, Wrecker.

Officers encountering any violation before May 14, 2024 will work with the owner to have the vehicle moved. After May 14, 2024, there will be a $30.00 ticket issued.
