No Changes After Third Ward Recount In Derby

A recount in Derby’s Third Ward Aldermen race Saturday yielded no minor changes from Election Day, according to Registrar of Voters Louise Pitney.

A state-mandate recount was held Saturday from 10 a.m. to about 12 p.m. in Derby City Hall.

It was held because just nine votes separated Third Ward candidates Tony Staffieri and Jim DiMartino.

Both ran on the Republican Party line.

After the recount, Staffieri and DiMartino were separated by nine eight votes.

The top three vote getters are elected to the Board of Aldermen.

The final counts in the Third Ward:

CORRECTION: The city released totals Monday afternoon showing slight changes from the Nov. 3 results, but with no bearing on the three winners.

Carmen DiCenso (incumbent) – Democrat: 711 (after recount 712)

Peter Olenoski Jr. (incumbent) – Democrat: 630 (after recount 631)

Anthony Staffieri – Republican: 609 (after recount 609)

Jim DiMartino – Republican: 600 (after recount 601)

David Anroman (incumbent): 584 (after recount = 586)

Scott Boulton – Republican: 549 (after recount 549)

Staffieri is a former mayor. He’ll be one of two Aldermen from the Republican line. The other is First Ward Alderman Thomas Donofrio, an independent who ran as a Republican.

The remaining Aldermen all ran as Democrats:

  • Barbara DeGennaro and Stephen Iacuone in the First Ward
  • Ronald Sill, Joseph DiMartino and Arthur Gerckens, all from the Second Ward
