SHELTON — There were no injuries reported after an overnight fire on Center Street Wednesday. The fire marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.

The Shelton Fire Department was sent to the 100 block of Center Street downtown at about 2:22 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire alarm sounding with an odor of smoke.

The first crews on scene saw smoke coming from the back of a three-story brick building with commercial space on floor one and apartments above.

A fire was discovered in the first floor, prompting additional units to be called to the scene. About 25 firefighters were on scene, along with Echo Hose Ambulance.

The upper floor apartments were not damaged in the blaze, according to a social media post from the fire department.
