There were no injuries after house fire on Dirienzo Heights in east Derby Wednesday.
The cause of the fire is officially undetermined, though people told Fire Marshal Phil Hawks that someone in the neighborhood was setting off fireworks about 45 minutes before the fire started.
However, there’s no proof that points to fireworks as the cause, Hawks said Thursday.
The Derby Fire Department was sent to a duplex on 117 Dirienzo Heights about 10 p.m. for a report of a fire.
The fire started near some trash cans outside the left front corner of the house, Hawks said.
Flames extended to the house itself, and into the roof area. Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to put out the flames, and took out a ceiling in an effort to make sure the fire had not spread further.

The damage was relatively minimal, at least for a house fire, Hawks and Derby Fire Department Assistant Chief David Lenart said.
The house is able to be occupied, though the three or four people living there were advised to have an electrician check out the wiring before turning the power back on.
