ANSONIA — One person was sent to the hospital after a house fire on Belleview Terrace on Friday evening (March 15).

The extent of the man’s injuries were not known, but Ansonia Fire Department Assistant Chief Anthony DeLucia said he was taken to Griffin Hospital for an evaluation.

The Ansonia Fire Department received a report of a house fire at 5:35 p.m. Derby and Seymour were called to the scene, in addition to EMS, police and fire police.

The first units on scene saw heavy smoke coming out the front of the single-family, ranch-style dwelling. Everyone in the house was able to get out, DeLucia said.

Firefighters entered the house and discovered a fire in a bedroom. It was quickly extinguished. Firefighters checked to see if the fire had spread beyond the bedroom, but it had not.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause and origin.

DeLucia said the house is uninhabitable. The Connecticut Red Cross responded to the scene to help the residents.

Firefighters were on scene until 8 p.m.
