The state medical examiner removed the remains at about 11:15 a.m.

Seymour detectives, state fire marshals and a state prosecutor are all at the scene. Dogs trained to sniff out accelerants are also at the property.

There has been no determination as to the cause and origin of the fire.

We’re still actively doing the investigation,” Wetowitz said.

The fire was reported by two neighbors at about 1:41 a.m. at 105 Davis Road.

Seymour assessor records identify the owner of the property as Tania M. Sapko.

Jim Bower, a neighbor who lives across the street, said he was asleep when he was woken up by the blaze.

I thought I heard a gunshot, but the flames were so bad it could have just been the wood cracking,” Bower said. I thought I left a light on in the living room but it was basically just the intensity of the flames.”

Asked if there were any indications of foul play, Wetowitz said None at all.”

Four cats are also dead.

Both Seymour fire companies and firefighters from Oxford brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.

The fire marshal said investigators expect to be on the scene for several hours.
