The Town of Oxford on Monday received a $100,000 check from The Hartford Fire Insurance Company.
The company’s policy guaranteed the loyalty and honesty of the former tax collector, Karen Guillet, who is accused of taking more than $600,000 from the town’s tax collection coffers.
First Selectman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers said the check was being deposited into the town’s general fund account.
The company determined last Wednesday the town is due the payment, according to information given by Drayton-Rogers at the press conference Thursday, Oct. 20.
The money covers a portion of the money allegedly misappropriated by the town’s former tax collector, she said.

More than $600,000 went missing from the town since 2007, according to court testimony in a civil case filed by the town against former tax collector Guillet.
Drayton-Rogers said credit is due to the ad hoc committee that has been investigating the case for the town. The committee members are finance board member John Kiley, town Administrative Assistant Joseph Calabrese and Finance Director James Hliva.
“Their work has been outstanding, accurate and time consuming,” Drayton-Rogers said in a press statement.
She said she has nothing but praise for them and for Town Counsel Francis Teodosio, who she said has been in direct contact with Hartford Fire Insurance Company.
