Nineteen years ago, when Oxford’s Great Oak Middle School created a “heroes wall” project in the school, a quote from Penn State football coach Joe Paterno seemed inspirational and poignant:
“My best team will be the one that produces the best doctors, lawyers, fathers and citizens, not necessarily the one with the best record. Let’s keep it in context.”
That’s the quote from Paterno painted on a gymnasium wall at the school as part of the project, according to an article published by Oxford Patch.
But amid a sexual abuse scandal at Penn State, in which Paterno was recently fired for not doing enough to stop alleged assaults on children, Oxford school officials are questioning whether the quote should be painted over.
