Plea Deal Offered In Ansonia Ax Killing

Zielinski

ANSONIAProsecutors in Milford offered a plea deal on Tuesday (Feb. 27) to an Ansonia man accused of murdering his wife with an ax while his children were in the home.

Kamil Zielinski was arrested after a 911 call led police to discover his wife, Grace Zielinska, had been severely injured in the couple’s house on Root Avenue on Nov. 9, 2021. Zielinski was standing over his wife’s body when police arrived, according to a police.

Zielinski was charged with murder and risk of injury to a minor. Grace Zielinska died after being transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Kamil Zielinski and Grace Zielinska had three children, all below the age of six at the time of the murder. The two youngest children were in the house at the time. Kamil was 28 at the time of the murder. Grace was 34.

On Tuesday, in front of Judge Kevin Russo, prosecutors offered Zielinski a deal for both charges: 45 years imprisonment in exchange for a guilty plea.

(Correction: the original version of this story had the incorrect prison term offered)

Prosecutor Margaret Kelly said that Grace Zielinska’s family had agreed to the plea offer, though they had wished for a harsher sentence.

Zielinski’s next scheduled court date is March 21. His attorney, David Thompson, declined to comment on the deal offered.

Police said that they had not received any domestic violence calls regarding Kamil Zielinski and Grace Zielinska prior to the date of the murder. They noted that Zielinski had previously been arrested in connection to an altercation with his father.
