Police: Marshal Violated Order Of Protection

Police said they’ve re-arrested a deputy federal marshal already in hot water over a domestic violence incident.

Rafael Garcia violated an order of protection that prohibited from contacting a local woman, Detective Ben Trabka said last week.

Garcia is being held in a New Jersey jail pending extradition to Connecticut, where he’ll be arraigned on the charge, Trabka said.

In August, Garcia — 41, a New Jersey resident and a 17-year veteran of the U.S. Marshal service — was accused of ramming a police car after a domestic dispute with a woman at the Heather Ridge condos.

A gun was fired during the dispute. Garcia’s attorney said the woman fired a round into the floor.

At a court appearance in August, Garcia’s attorney said his client suffers from depression.

A judge ordered Garcia to have no contact with the woman. Trabka said Garcia didn’t follow the judge’s order.

He started sending her e‑mails and instant messages,” Trabka said.

A court date on the new charge — violating an order of protection — has not been scheduled.

Garcia collected three felony charges from the August incident — first-degree assault, attempt to commit first-degree assault and attempt to commit assault on a police officer or EMS personnel. He has a court date in Milford of Nov. 8 on those charges.
