Police: Roaming Dog Attacks Two Men

Two men were sent to the hospital after a dog attacked them early Monday on Ansonia’s Arch Street, police said.

Police said both men required medical attention and surgery to repair their injuries.

About 6:20 a.m. a nurse at Griffin Hospital called Ansonia police reporting two men had come to the ER after the attack, according to a prepared statement from Lt. Andrew Cota, the department’s spokesman.

Officers arrived to discover that two Ansonia men, 43 and 41, had been attacked by what police described as a roaming pit bull.”

One of the men told cops he heard a disturbance in front of his residence about 3 a.m.

When he went outside to investigate, he was attacked by the dog.

The male said that he was bitten on the arm by the dog and he was able to fight the dog off and run away,” Cota’s statement said. The other male also relayed the same story about the pit bull attacking unprovoked and he was also bitten on the arm and leg area.”

The only information that the males could give as a description was a dark color or brown pit bull,” Cota’s statement said.

The dog had not been located as of Monday afternoon, Cota said.

The attack occurred at 16 Arch St. in Ansonia.

It is unknown at this time who the owner of the pit bull is,” Cota said. A neighborhood canvas did not result in any other witnesses or the identification of an owner at this time. This case is still under investigation.”

Cota asked that anyone who may have information call police at 203 – 735-1885.
