Police: Shelton Man Threatened Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

SHELTON – A 22-year-old city man was arrested Friday (July 14) after police said he threatened Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Brendan Hughes is charged with second-degree threatening. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Derby court on Friday.

According to police, Hughes wrote a post on Twitter on July 12 saying I’m going to kill Ron DeSantis with a gun.”

Florida police reported the online threat to Shelton police, according to a prepared statement.

Hughes’ Tweet was a reply to a campaign ad posted by Gov. DeSantis’s account asking people to visit RonDeSantis.com.

The reply was still visible as of 2 p.m. Friday. It has been viewed 62 times.

Gov. DeSantis wants to be the Republican nominee for U.S. President in 2024.
