Police: Shelton Man Was Drunk With Child

A 38-year-old Shelton man was charged with risk of injury to a minor after police allegedly found a beer in the cup holder of his baby stroller.

Police said they were sent to a municipal parking lot on Cornell Street at about 7 p.m. after receiving a report of three rowdy” males playing football with an empty alcohol bottle.

Police said Justin Abbott appeared extremely intoxicated” and had his 3‑year-old daughter with him.

The child, who appeared to be OK, was reunited with her mother at the conclusion of this investigation,” according to a prepared statement from Shelton police.

Cops had encountered Abbott and his child two hours earlier on Howe Avenue after someone said they spotted three men drinking with a young child in tow.

Police said there were no signs of drinking at that point and the child seemed OK. The trio were told to leave the area.

Abbott stated that he should have walked home earlier when officers made contact with him,” police said.

Abbott is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court today (Friday, July 10).
