Public Notice: AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE NAMING OF FACILITIES AND AREAS OWNED BY THE TOWN OF SEYMOUR

AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE NAMING OF FACILITIES AND AREAS OWNED BY THE TOWN OF SEYMOUR

The Board of Selectpersons of the Town of Seymour (the Board”) shall be the authority authorized to name Facilities and Areas as hereinafter defined own.cl by the Town of Seymour in accordance with the following procedure:

1. A proposal to name a Facility or Area, or to change or otherwise modify the name of Facility or Area, shall be presented in writing to the Board. The proposal shall identify the Facility or Area, the proposed name and the reason or background for the proposed naming of the same;

2. The Board shall consider the Proposal at a meeting of the Board within thirty (30) days following the receipt of the Proposal by the Office of the First Selectperson;

3. If the Board, within its discretion, wishes to further consider the Proposal after the initial meeting of the Board on the Proposal, the Board may conduct a public hearing within thirty (30) days thereafter by notifying the public on the Town of Seymour website and through the filing of an agenda of the date and time of the public hearing;

4. The Board shall thereafter take action on the Proposal within thirty (30) days following the hearing. If the Board fails to act on the Proposal within said period of time, it shall be deemed that the Board denied the Proposal without prejudice;

5. A two thirds (2/3rds) vote of the entire membership of the Board shall be required to name a Facility or Area in accordance with the provisions of this ordinance;

6. he terms Facility” or Area” as used in this ordinance shall mean Town owned buildings, or parts or sections thereof, including, but not limited to, rooms, hallways, offices, gymnasiums, libraries, auditoriums, media centers and parks, as well as, roads, streets, bridges, pavilions, gazebos, school buildings, recreational fields, monuments, open space areas, trails, ponds and streams, including appurtenances associated therewith; and

7. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein, the Board of Education, Board of Police Commissioners and Board of Fire Commissioners, respectively, shall have the right to name interior areas of the buildings over which they have jurisdiction ( i.e., the schools, police station and fire houses), including, but not limited to, rooms, cafeterias, hallways, offices, libraries, media centers, gymnasiums and courtyards within buildings wider their respective jurisdictions.
