Seymour CERT Is Ready To Help

Members of the new Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) were sworn in by Tom Eighmie, Seymour’s Director of Emergency Management. 

First Selectmen Kurt Miller attended the ceremony and congratulated the members.

The CERT team has been created and trained to provide assistance in opening and operating the town’s emergency shelters as well as assisting professional emergency responders in various roles. 

The purpose of the CERT program, which is supported by the US Department of Homeland Security, is to train community members in emergency preparedness to support their families and local emergency responders with disaster relief and community safety.

Members are all volunteers and the program is open to anyone over the age of 18.

Class registration is taking place now for the 2015 class slated to begin after the first of the year.
