Seymour Christmas Parade Honors Poeta Family As Grand Marshals

Nina Poeta’s courageous year-long battle with an inoperable brain tumor brought together her school and her hometown in a common cause over the past 12 months.

Outpourings of love and support were evident as many groups and hundreds to thousands of individuals showed their support.

Nina’s story galvanized the townspeople so much that the Seymour Christmas Parade Association deemed it most appropriate to name the Poeta family as the grand marshals of the 2015 parade.

Two other awards will be acknowledged at the parade.

Tom Eighmie, Emergency Management Services director for the town will be presented with the Community Service Award.

Jack Hillman Sr. (Precision Aerospace) will be recognized as the Business Person of the Year.

Approximately 60 units will be in the line of march as the 43d annual Seymour Christmas Parade steps off on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m.

The parade will assemble at the community center and take the traditional route over the Broad Street bridge, up Main Street, then on to Route 67 before dispersing on Spruce Street.

Prior to the parade, there will be entertainment at the reviewing stand adjacent to the railroad station.

Aimee’s Academy of Dance will present Snow Day.”

That location would be a good vantage point throughout the parade as several groups will stop there to perform musical or dance numbers.

In addition spectators will be entertained prior to the parade by clowns, hula hoop performers, and face painters.

In case of inclement weather, the parade will be held the following Sunday, Dec. 7.
