Seymour PD Achieves Tier 1 Accreditation Status

SEYMOUR — The following information was taken from the Seymour Police Department’s Facebook page:

The Seymour Police Department is proud to announce that today (March 13, 2024), the department was awarded our Tier 1 Accreditation status through the Connecticut Police Officers Standards and Training Council.

The mission of the Connecticut Police Accreditation program is to enhance the professionalism of Connecticut Law Enforcement agencies through compliance with contemporary, internationally recognized standards of excellence.

The Connecticut Accreditation program contains three tiers. Tier I, Liability Standards, are designed to assist police agencies better protect themselves, their employees, and their governing entities from liability exposure as well as enhanced delivery of service and improved public confidence in the agency.

Tier II, Professional Standards, address legal requirements, management and operations. Tier III, General Management, further expands upon the Tier II Standards, addressing legal requirements, management and operations.

Accreditation is a lengthy process that we have worked on for some time.

In December 2023, POSTC assessors conducted a two-week file review of our Tier 1 standards along with an on-site assessment for compliance.

The Seymour Police Department is proud to be Tier 1 accredited and continues to work toward the standards set by the Police Officer Standards and Training Council and our goal is to achieve Tier 2 and Tier 3 by the end of 2024.
