CONTRIBUTED Shelton Police Officer Daniel Loris and Stryker, the department's new police dog.
Loris and Stryker have been training since February in the areas of tracking, handler protection, evidence recovery, building searches, obedience, and classroom education, according to a press release from state police.
As part of Thursday’s ceremony, Loris also received the Daniel “Danny” Wasson Memorial Award, given in honor of Officer Danny Wasson, a Milford police officer killed in the line of duty in 1987.

Loris and Stryker will now be on active patrol, Shelton Police Captain Robert Kozlowsky said.
Stryker replaces the department’s former police dog, Jager, who retired last year.
