A family of four escaped unharmed from their home in Shelton’s White Hills late Friday after a fire that started on their porch.
Firefighters were sent to the house, at 94 Far Horizons Drive, about 11:30 p.m. after family members saw the fire and dialed 911.
Shelton Fire Department Chief Fran Jones said firefighters from Shelton’s White Hills Fire Co. 5 arrived at the address to find “a fully involved rear porch fire with extension into the home’s attic.”
“The first due units stretched a couple hose lines in and knocked down the majority of the fire within about 15 minutes,” Jones said at the scene about 12:15 a.m.
The home suffered extensive smoke and water damage.
“They’ll be relocating to a family member’s home for at least the evening,” Jones said.
The family pet, a cat, also escaped the fire, Jones said.
Crews from Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 and Huntington Fire Co. 3 also responded to the scene.
The fire marshal was on scene to investigate the blaze’s cause, Jones said.
