Shelton Fire Chief Recommendation Expected Tuesday

The Shelton Board of Fire Commissioners will interview three candidates for Fire Chief Tuesday, and expects to make a recommendation in a meeting following the interviews, according to commissioner Ben McGorty.

The three candidates for chief are: Fran Jones, Mike Ullrich and Paul Wilson.

Jones is a former fire chief of the department.

Ullrich scored highest on the fire chief’s test, and was the previous recommendation from the commission.

Wilson is a current assistant chief for the department.

The city has been without a fire chief since November 2010, when Jones decided not to seek another term in the position.

After testing and interviews, the Board of Fire Commissioners in December 2010 recommended that Ullrich be appointed the new chief.

However, Mayor Mark Lauretti twice rejected their recommendation.

So the board started the hiring process over this summer.

Ullrich was recently named as the Fire Commissioner for Echo Hose Co. 1, for a term to begin in January.

McGorty said Ullrich was still scheduled to be interviewed and considered for the post at the meeting Tuesday night.

The interviews will take place at 6 p.m. at Shelton City Hall. The public meeting is scheduled to be held at 7:30 p.m. at Shelton City Hall, room 104.
