Shelton Man Charged In Connection To Derby Hit-And-Run

DERBY — A 40-year-old Shelton man was arrested on Friday after allegedly hitting a person near the Dew Drop Inn on North Avenue Thursday night.

The victim was taken to Yale Hospital with serious injuries. His or her name was not released.

According to a social media post from Derby police, officers were sent to a report of a motor vehicle accident at about 7:27 p.m. on Feb. 15 near the intersection of North Avenue and Roosevelt Drive.

While en route it was reported the motor vehicle fled the scene. Witnesses were able to obtain the evading vehicle’s license plate and provided detailed descriptions of the operator,” according to the statement.

Police said they located the suspect and the vehicle he was driving Friday in Shelton. The suspect was identified as Jeffrey Putnik. He is charged with evading responsibility with serious physical injury, failure to exercise due care to avoid a pedestrian, and operating a motor vehicle without a registration.
He was being held on a $100,000 bond.
