A Shelton man is due back in court March 15 to face charges he stole a gun and used it while trying to rob a Shelton Avenue gas station.
Joshua Zarembski, 24, is accused of pointing a gun at a man while robbing the Buck Stop Citgo Feb. 26.
The station’s owner called 911 about 7:30 a.m. saying someone had just pointed a gun at him, Detective Richard Bango said in a prepared statement.
“An investigation revealed that a white male in a Yankees sweatshirt and white gloves entered the store,” Bango said. “The man pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at the owner, chambered a round and demanded money. At that point other customers walked into the store and the suspect fled without any money.”
No one was injured.
The store owner saw the man running toward the Aspetuck Village Condominiums across the street.
Bango said officers searched the area and saw a man fitting the would-be robber’s description smoking a cigarette one the porch of one of the condos.
After reviewing the store’s surveillance video, cops arrested Zarembski.
“The gun used in the robbery was later recovered by detectives and it was determined to be stolen,” Bango said.
Police charged Zarembski with attempted first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and theft of a firearm.
Zaremski also has a state police arrest pending in Superior Court in Bridgeport.
